David Ospina set to walk away from Les Aiglons

OGC Nice goalkeeper David Ospina will play in what is likely to be his last match in Les Aiglons’ strip this weekend when the 15th placed side take on Evian in Annecy with nothing left to play for as the Ligue 1 season comes to a close.

Ospina, who has showed superb consistency during the last two Ligue 1 campaigns especially, will leave the Côte D’Azur on Monday to join up with Colombia’s pre-World Cup training camp, with the goalkeeper fully expected to feature in the South American side’s final 23.

The Colombian has a contract until 2015 with OGC Nice and Get French Football News has learnt that Les Aiglons will not stand in his way to leave the club in the upcoming summer transfer window, after contract extension talks failed when the Riviera side was unable to offer Ospina a sufficient wage rise in the eyes of the player.

In many ways, Ospina will be playing for a new job in the World Cup as he looks to catch the eyes of the many representatives that will be present in Brazil from clubs across Europe.

The 25 year old has gained a lot from his experience with Les Aiglons, including a very short-lived taste of European football. Earlier this season, OGC Nice battled in the qualifying rounds for the Europa League but fell short to Limassol.

Ospina’s future is most likely to be away from France, and the player will certainly be missed as an emblematic goalkeeping character in the French footballing set up. However, OGC Nice fans will tell you that Ospina’s drive and desire have never come into question during his time at the club and that he deserves to find a club where he can win titles, season after season.
