Our colleagues at France Football understand that two of PSG’s key players in the form of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva are not keen on the idea of the January signing of Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye.
Although Laurent Blanc’s first choice central midfielder is Yohan Cabaye, that is not a view shared by other integral parts of the PSG setup.
Nasser Al Khelaifi and his advisers are understood to prefer recruiting a player from mainland Europe, who’s price would not be inflated. Newcastle’s current evaluation of Yohan Cabaye would force PSG to pay between €26m and €28m for the player.
Other, more cost effective options include the likes of Miralem Pjanic of AS Roma who would is worth about €18m. Juan Mata, the Chelsea attacking midfielder is another name that has been linked with PSG in recent weeks although he is understood to be in talks with Manchester United at present.
PSG would prefer to sign a central midfielder who is eligible to play in the Champions League for them, something which Mata is not.
The other option for Les Parisiens is to simply wait for another 6 months before focusing on acquiring their main central midfield target Paul Pogba. PSG and Mino Raiola have already had discussions with regards to a possible summer move and have not been met with a totally negative response.
