Ligue 1 LIVE: 25/1/14

21:00: Well, as usual the Saturday Ligue 1 games managed to throw up a whole load of drama. Montpellier convincingly beat Nice, Valenciennes played out an exciting draw with Lorient, Nantes held Reims to a 0-0 and Sochaux equalised in the last minute of the game to grab a point against fellow strugglers Ajaccio. After yet another brilliant day of Ligue 1 action, it is time for me to say goodbye. Until next time, Au Revoir!

20:52: FULL TIME: Valenciennes 1-1 Lorient, Montpellier 3-1 Nice, Ajaccio 1-1 Sochaux, Nantes 0-0 Reims.

20:50: GOAL: Ajaccio 1-1 Sochaux (Nogueira). Wow! This relegation clash just took the latest of twists! When Ajaccio thought they had bagged all three points, Nogueira struck with the last kick of the game to break their hearts. Delight for Sochaux, despair for Ajaccio.

20:47: Close: Oh dear! Another brilliant chance for Valenciennes to win it as the ball falls to an unmarked Waris with just the goalkeeper to beat, but he skews his shot wide! Valenciennes will be kicking themselves.

20:45: Close: After all of that dominance from Lorient, Valenciennes almost win it at the death! Pujol is released through on goal, but Ecuele Manga puts in an unbelievable tackle to deny him the winner!

20:42: Close: Reims go close from a free kick, which flies just wide of the post and hits the side netting, but it looked like Riou had is comfortably covered. Still 0-0 in that game.

30:38: GOAL: Montpellier 3-1 Nice (Camara). The substitutes combine to put the game to bed for Montpellier! After good work from Montano, he manages to get his shot away. Ospina can only parry towards Camara, and he provides a fabulous finish to bag the 3 points for his side.

30:35: Into the last 15 minutes now, and we have some extremely tense games on our hands. Goals from Nice or Sochaux will grab a point for their teams, while Nantes, Reims, Valenciennes and Lorient are just 1 goal away from all 3 points! A crucial last few minutes to come.

20:31: Close: Montpellier almost put the game to bed. The ball falls to Cabella just outside the box, but his curved effort it too close to the goalkeeper to cause him any trouble. Montpellier could rue their missed chances if Nice get their way…

20:27: GOAL: Montpellier 2-1 Nice (Bosetti). Completely against the run of play, Nice pull one back! The ball is played into Bosetti, who is just onside, and he slots calmly past Joudren to give Nice hope.

20:24: Ajaccio vs Sochaux is as tight as you would expect from the two bottom teams in the league. The quality in the final third from both sids has been poor today, barring the Ajaccio opener, and it is likely to stay 1-0 at this rate.

20:20: Close: What a save that is from Penneteau! Aboubakar could have had a hat-trick by now, but this time he manages to get his shot on target, only to see Penneteau save spectacularly from point blank range! Just not Vincent’s day today.

20:17: Close: Montpellier almost completely finish off the game. The ball falls to Cabella on the volley on the right hand side, but his shot flies into the side netting instead of the back of the net. Nice being dominated today.

20:14: Picking up where we left off in the Nantes vs Reims game. It remains an exciting game, but the defences are just too strong for the opposition attacks so far in this game. Reims have had the better chances, but you never know with this Nantes side…

20:12: GOAL: Montpellier 2-0 Nice (Hilton). Montpellier double their lead, and it is Hilton with the goal! Mounier delivers a corner to the near post, where it is flicked on towards the back post and Hilton is completely unmarked to stab in and put his team in control.

20:09: GOAL: Valenciennes 1-1 Lorient (Pujol). What an inspired substitution! Gregory Pujol, who had just come on at half time, equalises for Valenciennes from a corner!

20:05: Disallowed goal: Montpellier have the ball in the back of the net again, but this time it is disallowed! Cabella manages to get away from the 3 defenders that surround him in the penalty area and lay the ball off to Stambouli, who takes a shot. Ospina cannot hold it and it falls to Mounier, who finishes smartly, but it is correctly chalked off for offside.

20:02: KICK OFF: We are back underway in all 4 Ligue 1 games!

19:52: So, what do these scores mean for the Ligue 1 table? Well, Lorient are in 5th place as it stands, because they are winning and Nantes vs Reims is currently a draw. At the other end, Montpellier are moving well clear of the relegation zone while Ajaccio move off the bottom as they lead Sochaux at the break. Stand by for the second half!

19:46: HALF TIME: Ajaccio 1-0 Sochaux, Valenciennes 0-1 Lorient, Montpellier 1-0 Nice, Nantes 0-0 Reims.

19:44: Close: Reims come close to opening the scoring! Fortesse hits a powerful, swerving shot towards the Nantes goal, but Riou responds with an acrobatic save to palm the ball away.

19:41: GOAL: Valenciennes 0-1 Lorient (Ciss O.G.) Lorient finally take the lead they have deserved. After some extremely poor marking from a corner, the ball comes off of a Lorient head onto the unfortunate Ciss, who deflects the ball over the line to gift Lorient the lead.

19:37: Close: How has he missed? Aboubakar has another brilliant chance as the ball drops to him just 6 yards out, but his header hits a Valenciennes defender with the goalkeeper beaten! Lorient really should be winning this.

19:34: GOAL: Montpellier 1-0 Nice (Niang). Great goal from Montpellier! Cabella plays in a brilliant through ball that completely splits the Nice defence to Mounier, who then squares the ball to an unmarked Niang with Ospina committed to slot into an empty net. Beautiful football from the home side.

19:31: Close: Lorient really should be 1-0 up against Valenciennes. They have a 4 on 2 counter attack, but they take a bit too long to pass and defenders can get back to help. The ball does, however, eventually fall to Lorient, but it is straight at the ‘keeper.

19:27: Montpellier vs Nice is a very open game at the moment. First Niang goes close to open the scoring, and then Joudren has to be alert to come out and claim a ball to prevent a Nice chance. Really feels like there are goals in this one.

19:24: Close: Big chance for Aboubakar to open the scoring at his old ground! The ball is knocked down to him on the edge of the box, but he skews his right-footed shot way wide with no defenders in sight.

19:22: Puel goes straight through the back of Mounier, who looks in trouble initially. He does eventually get up though, and it looks like he is fine to continue.

19:20: Lorient are on top against Valenciennes at the moment, but they have not found that quality in the final third to grab a goal yet. Valenciennes themselves look set up to counter, so this match is nicely poised.

19:16: Close: And again! This time it is Cabella himself with the chance as he shoots from the right hand side of the penalty area, but the defender put him off just enough for his shot to be too weak to trouble Ospina. Nice living on the edge here.

19:13: Close: Montpellier go close again! This time Cabella gets his pass right, and he puts Mounier through bearing down on goal. However, his shot from the left is saved by Ospina in goal for Nice and parried away for a corner. Montpellier getting closer.

19:10: GOAL: Ajaccio 1-0 Sochaux (Cavalli). Ajaccio take a deserved lead, and it is a great team move that leads to the goal. The ball is played through the Sochaux defence down the right hand side, and the low cross that follows from the right falls perfectly to Cavalli at the back post, who cannot miss.

19:07: Close: Reims have a good chance to take the lead! The ball is played in from the right to Ayité, who dives towards it but cannot quite get the strong touch the cross needs to direct it into the corner. Promising from the away side.

19:05: Half-chance for Montpellier, and you would have expected Cabella to do better there. He is running towards goal, and has Niang to his right available for the pass, but his pass is too strong and the chance is gone.

19:03: Cagey starts in most of the games so far. Teams unable to exert authority early on. Must say I am always impressed by the Nantes fans, they make it very difficult for the away side to play when they come to Nantes. A 12th man if ever there was one.

19:00: KICK OFF: We are underway in all 4 Ligue 1 games!

18:55: Round Up: With just 5 minutes to go until kick-off, let’s have a quick look back at what happened earlier today. Guingamp managed to grab a brilliant 1-1 draw with leaders and Champions PSG. They will, however, feel like they should have had all 3 points. Yatabaré scored in the 84th minute to put Guingamp ahead, but Alex managed to equalise just 3 minutes from time to rescue a point for PSG.

18:45: Hello everyone and welcome to yet another Saturday evening of Ligue 1 action! Instead of the usual 5 games from 19:00 GMT, we have just the 4, because the Toulouse vs Bastia clash was postponed due to severe weather conditions. The games we do have are: Ajaccio vs Sochaux, Montpellier vs Nice, Nantes vs Reims and Valenciennes vs Lorient. Team news coming up shortly…
