Ligue 1

Ligue 1 LIVE: 26/04/14

21:00: Round Up: Result of the day undoubtedly goes to Guingamp, whose win over Valenciennes takes them closer and closer to securing safety, at the expense of Sochaux. ASSE beat Evian to boost their European hopes, Montpellier came back to beat Toulouse, Nice grabbed a 1-0 win over Reims and Rennes and Lorient played out an exciting 1-1 draw. Until next time, Au Revoir!

20:55: FULL TIME: Evian 1-2 St-Etienne, Guingamp 1-0 Valenciennes, Montpellier 2-1 Toulouse, Nice 1-0 Reims, Rennes 1-1 Lorient.

20:52: Red Cards: Sabaly is sent off for a flying two-footed challenge, and after the ensuing scuffle, Cambon is also given his marching order. Shame that it had to end like that, with Evian down to 9 men.

20:47: You have to say that Guingamp have dealt with Waris, one of the most dangerous in-form strikers in Ligue 1 at the moment, very well today. Into extra time in most of our games now.

20:44: Guingamp, who have not managed to get the second goal to kill the game off, are now defending for their lives to keep their all-important lead in tact. If scores stay as they are, Guingamp will be extremely close to safety, while VAFC will be all but doomed to Ligue 2 football next term.

20:40: GOAL: Montpellier 2-1 Toulouse (Cabella pen.). Montpellier have done it! They win a penalty just 2 minutes after they equalise, and Cabella confidently puts it away to give his side the lead!

20:37: GOAL: Montpellier 1-1 Toulouse (Ait-Fana). A cross comes in from the right, and Ait-Fana manages to creep in unnoticed at the back post to equalise for Montpellier! Serge Aurier was probably the man at fault there, as the full back left his man open to score at the back post.

20:33: Penalty Appeal: Evian want a penalty, as Marco Ruben goes down under Zouma’s challenge in the box, but the referee thinks it was a dive, and books Ruben. Replays show the contact was only with the man… Zouma a lucky man there.

20:30: GOAL: Rennes 1-1 Lorient (Ntep). Rennes equalise! A corner is sent into the box towards the back post, and Ntep leaps like a salmon on top of the defenders to power in a header into the far post! Game on!

20:24: That Guingamp goal means as things stand they are above Evian on goal difference on 38 points, with Sochaux the next team down, and the first in the relegation zone, on 33 points, but with a game in hand. A loss for Valenciennes here and they are all but down…

20:19: GOAL: Guingamp 1-0 Valenciennes (Beauvue). Guingamp have the breakthrough! From a corner on the right, Beauvue reacts faster than the Valeciennes defenders to score from the back post and set the stadium alight! Huge goal.

20:15: GOAL: Evian 1-2 St-Etienne (Wass). St-Etienne were cruising, not anymore though. Barbosa finds space on the left, crosses for Wass, whose initial shot is saved by Ruffier, but he latches onto the rebound to finish high into the net.

20:13: GOAL: Nice 1-0 Reims (Eysseric). Nice have the lead! It is a scrappy goal, as Eysseric turns in a deflected shot from close range, but Nice will not care in the slightest!

20:10: Guingamp vs Valenciennes has been one of the most interesting 0-0 draws I have seen in ages at the moment. Both sides are going for it, but keepers are standing strong.

20:07: Montpellier win a free kick early in the second half as Cabella is fouled by Akpa Akpro, who is booked for his troubles, but the delivery is poor and does not clear the first man. The home side must do better to get back into this.

20:03: KICK OFF: We are back underway in all 5 Ligue 1 games!

19:48: HALF TIME: Evian 0-2 St-Etienne, Guingamp 0-0 Valenciennes, Montpellier 0-1 Toulouse, Nice 0-0 Reims, Rennes 0-1 Lorient.

19:45: Ouch: Anthony Weber is down and clutching his left foot, and that looked like it really hurt. In fact, he is unable to continue, and Albaek is on in his place, since Reims have no central defenders ready to come on to replace Weber.

19:41: Close: Guingamp are really coming close to opening the scoring against Valenciennes, as Diallo forces VAFC keeper Novaes into a very good diving save down low to his left.

19:38: Great goalkeeping here from Audard, who probably saves his team from losing their lead. Grosicki is released by a through ball and is through on goal, but Audard is very quick to come out and smother the ball.

19:34: Close: Montpellier close to equalising against Toulouse, as Niang is released on the right hand side in front of goal, but he is forced a little further out wide, and his eventual shot is a little wayward. Perhaps should have done better there.

19:28: Reaching the half hour mark now in our 5 games, and St-Etienne are the standout performers so far. Guingamp vs Valenciennes is full of tension, but, understandably, not much quality, and the game really needs a goal to get things going.

19:23: GOAL: Rennes 0-1 Lorient (Traore). Lorient, who seem to have a very impressive amount of young attacking talent at the club, take the lead against Rennes thanks to a well-taken Alain Traore goal. Lorient have impressed so far today.

19:20: GOAL: Evian 0-2 St-Etienne (Perrin). Evian undone with a simple goal from St-Etienne. The ball is crossed in from out wide, and Loic Perrin rises highest to finish past the goalkeeper and double St-Etienne’s lead!

19:15: Not much to report so far from Nice vs Reims, where we have had a very slow start with few chances for either side. I guess that is understandable given neither side really has anything to play for.

19:12: GOAL: Evian 0-1 St-Etienne (Erding). That man Erding is on hand to give St-Etienne the lead against their lower placed opponents. A win here and St-Etienne will have all-but secured a spot in the Europa League for next season.

19:08: GOAL: Montpellier 0-1 Toulouse (Trejo). Toulouse take an early lead against fellow mid-table side Montpellier thanks to a Trejo goal! Very suspect defending from Montpellier, who will feel they should have done better.

19:05: Relatively slow starts all round the park. The most important game of the day is undoubtedly the relegation 6 pointer between Guingamp and Valenciennes, and the Guingamp faithful look to be really up for this one today.

19:00: KICK OFF: We are underway in all 5 Ligue 1 games!
