Ligue 1 LIVE: PSG vs ASSE

22:00: Round-Up: Convincing win in the end for PSG, even though St-Etienne played much better in the second half. Ibrahimovic was too hot to handle in the first 45 minutes, and the big Swede’s two goals ultimately decided this encounter. However, after an enthralling evening of Ligue 1 action, it is now time for me to say goodbye. Until next time, Au Revoir!

21:55: FULL TIME: PSG 2-0 St-Etienne

21:52: Close: Maybe the last chance of the game here, as Hamouma sends in a fizzing shot in towards Sirigu, but the Italian gets two strong hands behind it and negotiates the danger with little fuss.

21:50: We are into 4 minutes of added time now, and the PSG fans know the 3 points are on the way. Credit must be given to St-Etienne for their second half performance, but PSG’s dominance in the first has decided this game.

21:48: Close: Maxwell tries to find Ibra from the left, but his cross is blocked back to him. On the second time of asking he finds Cavani, with nobody near him, but his left-footed shot is wide of the post!

21:46: Perrin takes one for the team as he hacks down Motta, who was steaming through on goal. Free kick in a great position for Ibra… and his thunderbolt of a strike is saved by a diving Ruffier!

21:44: Both sides just running out of steam at the moment. Lots of heavy legs all over the pitch, but you have to say it has been an impressive performance from PSG tonight.

21:40: Substitution: Hamouma is on for Corgnet, who was guilty of missing probably St-Etienne’s best chance of the evening. The away side are running out of time now to turn this around, just 10 minutes remaining of normal time.

21:37: Ibrahimovic is down in a bit of pain as Guilavogui goes through the back of him and catches his calf, but it looks like he should be OK to continue.

21:34: PSG have a free kick in a very good position… Will Ibra take it? Yes he will, but it is high and not so handsome, nowhere near finding the target. Ibrahimovic has not hit his first half heights so far in this second period, but he may still have a moment of magic left in him…

21:32: Close: Matuidi pinches the ball in midfield, and finds Ibrahimovic as the Swede beats the offside trap. Cavani is well placed in the middle, but Ibra’s cross is a poor one and Ruffier claims the ball simply.

21:30: Close: PSG go close to extending their lead, as Maxwell’s cross looks like it will find Lucas at the far post for a tap in, but Tremoulinas manages to intercept the cross with a fantastic sliding challenge.

21:28: St-Etienne piling on the pressure, as two corners are swung into the PSG box, but the home side have all the answers at the moment. Must say Tremoulinas has been impressive on the St-Etienne left.

21:26: Close: Absolutely brilliant from PSG, as Verratti and Jallet combine well to cross into Luca, who has a free header, but he can only direct it wide.

21:24: Ouch: Looks like Cabaye has done his back, and that will be the end of his evening. Unclear how serious that injury is at the moment. Verratti and Lucas Moura on for Cabaye and Lavezzi.

21:20: Close: What a miss! St-Etienne should have scored! Guilavogui has a free header just 4 yards out, but he heads it over the bar when he really should have scored! PSG look a little rattled…

21:17: First roll of the die from St-Etienne, as Erding comes on in place of Tabanou. St-Etienne may need to start gambling soon if nothing goes for them.

21:15: St-Etienne have definitely started the second half much better than they ended the first, as Bayal Sall goes close with a fizzing shot, which Sirigu palms away to safety. Promising signs for the away side.

21:12: A brilliant move form PSG, which involves short passes from Ibra and Cavani, finally finds Lavezzi on the right, but his shot flies wide of the far post.

21:08: Close: Brilliant start from St-Etienne, and it should be 2-1! Mollo’s shot is blocked by Alex, but the ball falls back to Corgnet, with just Sirigu to beat, but he puts it into the side netting!

21:05: KICK OFF: Back underway at the Parc des Princes! St-Etienne have an uphill task to say the least.

20:59: Kick Off is on the way in the second half. I have to say it has been a pleasure watching PSG so far, and in this form they could trouble almost any side in Europe. Is the Champions’ League a realistic goal?

20:55: St-Etienne had pretty much two spells of 5 minutes when they were in the game. Other than that, PSG have just been too strong. Their 2-0 lead is fully deserved, and the away side just haven’t got an answer for Ibrahimovic at the moment. It will take a fabulous counter-attacking display form ASSE in the second half to get anything out of this game. PSG dominant.

20:50: HALF TIME: PSG 2-0 St-Etienne

20:47: Close: Cavani stands behind a free-kick just outside the box, and then puts his foot through it as it flies past the wall. It is powerful enough to beat Ruffier, but unfortunately for the Uruguayan is beats the post too.

20:45: GOAL: PSG 2-0 St-Etienne (Ibrahimovic). It’s him again! He starts off the move, playing it into Matuidi after brilliant footwork. Matuidi passes to Cavani, who’s cross is turned in by Ibrahimovic at the near post! Brilliant.

20:43: PSG again pulling ASSE all over the place. Lavezzi has a ton of space down the right, but his pull back is cut out by a defender. It eventually falls back to Ibrahimovic, 30 yards out

20:40: Close: Outrageous effort form Ibrahimovic, and he almost scored! He picks up the ball from Maxwell on the far left, and curls a beautiful shot towards the top corner, but it flies narrowly over the bar. Brilliant effort from the Swede.

20:37: Close: How have PSG not made it 2-0? Ibra lofts a brilliant ball into Cavani, who can only shot wide of the far post! Just a minute later, a 25 yarder from Cabaye is tipped away by a diving Ruffier. ASSE are being overwhelmed.

20:34: What a miss! Lavezzi puts a brilliant ball into the 6 yard box from the right, and it falls to Ibra just 4 yards out, but he manages to somehow put his shot wide! Really should have made it 2-0 to PSG there.

20:31: The referee has given quite a few decisions against PSG after that first goal… Can’t help but think he was affected by the replays on the big screen that showed his mistake. St-Etienne have responded decently to going behind.

20:28: Ouch: Brandao is a lucky man here… He goes in with his elbow right into Cabaye’s neck, who falls onto the floor in pain, but only receives a yellow card from the referee. That could easily have been a red card.

20:25: After all the controversy, the crowd has really got going in supporting PSG. Bayal Sall goes in with another huge challenge on Maxwell, and PSG want another penalty, but it was a fair challenge and the referee is unmoved.

20:22: Penalty Appeal: Cavani looks to be hacked down by Bayal Sall in the box, but the referee gives nothing! He saw his mistake with the goal on the replays on the big screen, maybe that had something to do with it…

20:20: GOAL: PSG 1-0 St-Etienne (Ibrahimovic). Absolutely bizarre! Ibra plays the ball into Matuidi, who is clearly offside and is flagged by the linesman, but the referee ignores him as the ball falls into Ibra, who applies a clinical finish. Goal given!

20:16: Close: St-Etienne have really grown into this game, and they now create the best chance so far! Tremoulinas passes into Tabanou, who rifles a 30 yard shot at goal, which is heading into the far corner, but Sirigu makes a diving save to keep it out!

20:14: Tremoulinas has been the most active St-Etienne player in attacking terms so far. He plays two one-twos and manages to get in behind PSG’s line of defence, but his touch is too strong and Sirigu can clear.

20:11: Outrageous piece of skill from Tremoulinas as he nutmegs Matuidi with a clever back heel, put the return pass from Guilavogui is off-target and the move breaks down.

20:08: Zouma puts in a brilliant slide tackle to deny Maxwell the opportunity to cross from the left hand side. The youngster has been as impressive as ever in the first few minutes of this match, but it looks like most of PSG’s play is coming down their left-hand side.

20:06: PSG with most of the early play so far, as they dominate possession in midfield. Matuidi almost manages to put a cross in from the left, but it is blocked and Bayal Sall manages to get it clear.

20:03: KICK OFF: We are underway at the Parc des Princes!

19:58: Top 4: While a PSG win here would re-establish their 8 point lead over nearest rivals Monaco, St-Etienne have aspirations of their own. They are looking to hold onto 4th place, with Lyon and Marseille challenging, and after Lille’s 0-0 draw with Nantes on Friday, a win would put them just 2 points off 3rd place. A lot to play for today!

19:55: Team News: PSG line up pretty much as expected, with Yohan Cabaye starting after his impressive display in PSG’s midweek win over Bayer Leverkusen. It is their usual 4-3-3 system, with Cavani still playing in his less favoured position out wide. St-Etienne, playing at the Parc des Princes, will look to counter with pace. Their defence, with the likes of Ruffier, Perrin and Chelsea man Zouma, looks to be their strongest asset. Should be a great game, just 5 to go until kick-off!

19:52: St-Etienne team vs PSG: Ruffier, Zouma, Bayal Sall, Perrin, Tremoulinas, Clement, Guilavogui, Mollo, Corgnet, Tabanou, Brandao.

19:48: PSG team vs St Étienne: Sirigu, Jallet, Thiago Silva, Alex, Maxwell, Thiago Motta, Cabaye, Matuidi, Cavani, Lavezzi, Ibrahimović.

19:45: Just when we thought that the Ligue 1 weekend was over, we have been given one final treat to feast on! PSG vs St-Etienne kicks off at 20:00 GMT, in just 15 minutes time, and it may well be a cracker. Let’s get into some team news.
