Sky Sports understand that after re-entering talks to sign the Lyon forward once again, Newcastle have once again redrawn from their negotiations to sign Gomis, but this time, however, it is unlikely that they will return. President Aulas now wants to keep the forward as Lyon appear to have limited firepower upfront and Newcastle have found it too hard to negotiate. The ‘Toon Army’ have not actually made a bid for Gomis this time around, as despite agreeing to lower wages, Newcastle were still unable to agree a contract with the player. We can now pretty much call an end to Newcastle’s pursuit of the player. Whether Marseille, or indeed another club, will make a move today remains to be seen.
