An update on Bafetimbi Gomis

The Bafetimbi Gomis saga rumbles on. The player is currently out of contract at the end of the season and has announced today that he intends to see his contract out with Lyon:

‘As I said before, I wish to see out the season here with Lyon. I am discussing with the President, but right now that’s it.’

This comes after President Aulas announced that Gomis had declined a new deal with the club and that he was looking to sell the player this January. Newcastle have made initial contact for the player, in order to work out the club’s demands for the player, as we told you last week, but there is no more on this story as talks have not yet progressed any further. We also understand that the player is interesting certain Russian clubs as well as other sides in Italy. Stoke City have also inquired about the player, but that was before the market even begun.

As we told you on Friday’s GFFN Mercato show, Lyon want between €2.5 and €3.5 million, which may seem cheap, but Gomis’ agent is once again demanding extortionate fees if there is a transfer. These fees are believed to be in the region of €1-1.2 million.
