In an interview with Midi Libre, French striker and Wigan Athletic player Andy Delort considers returning back to France just 3 months after his move to England at the end of the summer transfer window.
He had the following to say on moving to Montpellier specifically:
“If it is a Ligue 1 club, yes (I would want to return). I have already played 100 or so games in Ligue 1 or Ligue 2. The managers know me and know that I am a player who never gives up. Montpellier, it is a club in my region, the one where I was born. On top of that, I have a lot of respect for the Nicollin family who have known how to make the club an international entity.”
He then proceeded to look back on this calendar year’s summer transfer window:
“Wigan wasn’t really my first choice. If Lens had been able to sign players, I would have probably signed for them. But I am not moaning, it is a life experience that will make me grow and enable me to gain maturity. The stadiums are always full, the fans are loud, the people here live football. Tours wanted quite a bit of money to sell me because the club had difficulties. I did not want cause a stir because I know what I owe Tours.”
