21:47: Well thats all from me, Hugo Thomas, tonight as we reflect on a masterful performance from the Ligue 1 giants, PSG. Thank you and good night.
21:38: Well PSG have certainly got the job done here tonight and it looks like, despite a miracle in the second leg, that they will progress. Blaise Matuidi opened the scoring inside 130 seconds and the first half concluded with two goals from the PSG talisman, Ibrahimovic, including one penalty. Substitute and January signing Yohan Cabaye rounded off PSG’s performance with a goal in the last two minutes of normal time. PSG were completely dominant and only faced 3 shots on target compared to PSG’s 12. They also enjoyed 59% of the possession and the fact that they achieved a clean sheet will be gratefully taken by Laurent Blanc as they look to assert themselves as top contenders for the illustrious Champions League Trophy.
21:34: FULL TIME: Bayer Leverkusen 0-4 PSG
21:29: GOAL PSG: Yohan Cabaye scores PSG’s fourth one minute before the regular 90 are up. Job done and they can take this victory home where they will no doubt have little trouble preventing Leverkusen from scoring 4 based on tonight’s form.
21:18: Header form substitute Stefan Reinartz is acrobatically saved by Sirigu who looks determined to keep a clean sheet tonight.
21:16: Substitution: Fresh legs up front for PSG as Lavezzi is replaced by Javier Pastore. PSG letting the tempo drop here, killing the game off.
21:11: Substitution: Laurent Blanc brings on his January signing, Yohan Cabaye, on for the scorer of the opening goal, Blaise Matuidi.
21:08: Disallowed Goal: Blaise Matuidi’s shot is deflected into the net but the flag is up for offside so PSG’s tally remains at three.
21:04: Substitution: Sami Hyypia makes his final change bringing on Phillip Wollscheid for Sidney Sam. Still Bayer Leverkusen 0-3 PSG
21:00: Red card: A second yellow for Leverkusen’s Emir Spahic means that he departs the field of play and Leverkusen’s hopes of pulling any goals back get slimmer.
20:56: If PSG can complete this game without conceding, the cup heavyweights will surely be looking at PSG as a huge threat. Especially with a player of the quality of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who can turn games in an instant, PSG look like they could beat any European team tonight.
20:46: Substitutions: Bayer, looking to change things around this half, have brought on Stefan Reinartz and Julian Brandt in place of Heung-Min Son and Simon Rofles. Work to be done…
20:45: PSG get us underway for the second half, hopefully PSG will look to continue scoring but Laurent Blanc will definitely be stating the importance of not conceding in this second half.
20:31 HT: Half time here and what a half it was, Blaise Matuidi scores within 130 seconds and Ibrahimovic adds a further two at the end of the half including a penalty. Is it to early to say that PSG have progressed to the next round even with another three halves of football to play? Three away goals is always a mountain to overcome. Bayer 04 Leverkusen 0-3 PSG
20:27: GOAL PSG (Zlatan Ibrahimovic): Yes, another one! Ibrahimovic volleys into the top right hand corner. Bayer 04 Leverkusen 0-3 PSG
20:24: GOAL PSG (Zlatan Ibrahimovic): Emir Spahic gives away a stonewall penalty and Zlatan Ibrahimovic has not problems converting. Bayer 04 Leverkusen 0-2 PSG
20:20: PSG are not content just to sit back after their early lead, they know that two away goals is very difficult to overcome as Lavezzi’s shot is blocked. It’s refreshing to see an away team taking the game to their opponents.
20:14: The game settling down now after the early drama but PSG are determined to protect their lead by keeping the ball as Lars Bender whips in a hopeful cross for Bayer Leverkusen which is comfortably cleared.
20:07: PSG are dominant in possession, keeping the ball away from Leverkusen and preventing them from settling. Good positivity from the away side.
20:05: Chance for Kiessling as his header forces a save out of Sirigu but the flag was up for offside anyway.
19:57: (Chance) Leno drops the ball and it drops to Ibrahimovic but he can’t put it away B04L 0-1 PSG.
19:46: PSG GOAL (Matuidi): And in the first minutes Blaise Matuidi scores: what an electrifying start from PSG!
