Clairefontaine Press Conference 1: World Cup Preparation 2014

We bring you all the action from the French national squad’s first press conference at their training camp at Clairefontaine where Deschamps, Schneiderlin and Lloris all took to the microphone.

Didier Deschamps:

On the goalkeeping situation: “In terms of the goalkeeping hierarchy, you need to wait for me to discuss with all three of them. You will know soon.”

On the reserves: “It is important to have people who are happy to be there, even if they’re not at the forefront right now.”

On the journey: “I am happy. It is the start of a long journey. The adventure for the group starts today.”

On the possibility of calling a 4th goalkeeper: “I already have three goalkeepers, that is enough. If there is another spot of bother, I will make the decision then and there.”

On Remy and Cabaye: “I do not rule out the possibility of playing them in our first match.”

On Remy and Cabaye Injury: “Everything is well for Loic. Cabaye as well. He was back to work today.”

On the players’ utilisation of Social Media during the World Cup: “I will talk to the group when all the players are here. I will make the decision then. I have nothing to say right now.”

On Ribery’s comments: “Ribery is disappointed for Abidal and Nasri, who are his friends but he also said ‘the coach decides’.”

On Ecuador: “They have quality attacking players. They are an aggressive side. They finished ahead of Uruguay in qualifying.”

On Benzema: “He has a little problem with his adductor muscle. Madrid are trying to get him fit for the final (Champions League).”

On Mandanda: “It is tough for Steve. He had been with us for two years, each step of the way. I am sad for him and his friends (here) too.”

On Tremoulinas and Mangala: “Tremoulins has a little problem with his calf. Mangala has had a problem at the ankle for several weeks now.”

On the World Cup favourites: “Brazil and Spain are favourites. Argentina and the Netherlands have done it before and have experience.”

On rest time: “We are concentrating on our work and relaxation. We are allowed to play cards and on the Playstation.”

On France’s chances: “I am not a big dreamer. I know that the team is capable. We are going there without a set objective but with great potential.”

On Tottenham: “I feel good at Tottenham. It has been a difficult year but one rich in learning experiences.”

On transfers: “They get in the way at this time. We are here now to have an adventure. The most important thing is the French national team.”

On his future: “There is lots of speculation regarding my future. I still have another three years on my contract. The Champions League is my dream it is true. I cannot say that I want to leave out of respect for Southampton.”

On his idols: “Zidane and Gerrard. They are my models.”

On his future in the French national team: “Of course the next stage for me is Euro 2016. I am already thinking about it.”
