Clement Grenier: ‘I can nearly say that I will not be going to Newcastle.’

Lyon attacking midfielder is attending the ‘Lions of Sport Award Ceremony’ tonight and was asked about the speculation regarding his future, notably the links to Premier League side Newcastle.

He had the following to say:

‘I have not got a lot to say on that subject. I am not aware of all that (Newcastle negotiations). I have lots of objectives I need to achieve this year with Lyon. I can nearly say that I will not be going to Newcastle.’

Get French Football News understands that Newcastle had a €13m offer for Clement Grenier rejected at the beginning of this week for the player. 

Talks between Lyon and Newcastle continue. 

Talking to Foot Mercato minutes ago, Clement Grenier changed his stance on his transfer situation:

I have not confirmed (that I am staying at Lyon. You know very well that in football things happen very quickly. I cannot say anything because I do not know much about these negotiations. Like you, I read the newspapers and I saw my name being associated with Newcastle. But I do not have anymore information on that. The window closes on Friday and we will see then. But as I said, I have lots of objectives I want to achieve with Lyon and I hope to achieve my objective if making the World Cup too.
