Hubert Fournier discusses Lyon’s transfer window

Lyon manager Hubert Fournier has discussed the club’s transfer window with our colleagues at But!

On Lindsay Rose:

“It has been delayed because we had some issues when we met. I am waiting for news from the medical staff this morning. It is simply a timing issue. It was said that he had a knee problem but the test was done. We just need to do some supplementary tests. Either way, he is not arriving to replace Samuel Umtiti. He is here to compete with all the other central defenders at the club. But, as he is certainly a player for the future, his signing could allow for the eventual departure of Sam (Umtiti). This summer, or later on.”

On Christophe Jallet:

“It is a deal that is advancing. Today, there is no certainty. Is he our priority? Yes. We have not hidden that. Now we have to find agreements with the player and PSG. If we can, I will be very happy for him to join us. Everything about him pleases me. The man before the player. He is someone who never forgets where he has come from, a great professional. An experienced player, who has played at the highest international level. It would be a real delight for our managerial players like Max (Gonalons) and Steed (Malbranque) at the heart of the dressing room.”

On possible departures:

“Nobody is not susceptible to leaving. We have already agreed with certain players that they can leave if a good offer presents itself. For the others, it is out of the question to speak about a departure. For those who are allowed to leave, there is Clement Grenier, who asked us at the end of the season so that he could find a club to make a progression in terms of footballing level. Sam (Umtiti) has also asked to leave if an offer comes in. The club has listened to them and if the interests of the club are respected, then why not… The departure of the pair of them is not what we want, but perhaps one of the two will leave.”

On Clement Grenier:

“We cannot talk about compensating for his potential departure. Due to his talent, we will not find somebody on the market to replace him because of our financial means. We will adapt appropriately if he leaves. For the moment, we have not had any satisfying offers. There have been propositions because he is a quality player who is wanted a lot around the world. But they were not perceived to be adequate by the club. Also, they were not what Clement wanted in terms of footballing level.”

On Alassane Plea:

“No. I was surprised to read that. It is one of those characteristics of the transfer window that we announce everything, whatever we want. I am counting on him. We have never communicated about a possible departure for him.”
