Jean Michel Aulas talks Lyon’s transfer window

Lyon President Jean Michel Aulas has spoken to RMC this evening on a number of topics including Lacazette, his usage of Twitter and the January transfer window.

On Alexandre Lacazette…

“The difference between now and Benzema’s time is that we will soon have a big stadium to ensure revenue. There won’t be such a need to sell players. Lacazette won’t go anywhere. We have enough money so that we can keep him.”

On Nabil Fékir…

“Nabil will remain with us. He can be a good player in two to three years. We might have our own “Messi” on our hands, but I am not comparing them! I have talked to Nabil about this choice (between France and Algeria). I told him he should have a good rest of this season, playing Champions League with us next year and make his case for the French national team. He is already playing for the U21s… Algeria are certainly a respectable team, but I recommend that he chooses France. It is what I tell all the young players: you might be able to play EURO 2016 in Lyon!”

On Yoann Gourcuff…

“His contract is not my main concern, it is his game time that is! I hope that he can play on Wednesday. I won’t be discussing contracts until the second half of the season. We will make a decision together. We will make a decision based on how important we feel he is. There have been disappointments in the past… I hope that the story between Yoann and myself can end well.”

On Lyon’s objectives for the season…

“Our aim is still to qualify for Europe. Of course we would like to remain 3rd. It would be marvellous to play Champions League football in our new stadium.”

On the January transfer window…

“Unless we have some departures, we won’t be signing anyone. Our signings will be the players that come back from injury: Grenier, Fofana, Gourcuff. I don’t see any departures: even Koné who has had some doubts recently.”
