31 year old versatile French defender Jeremy Mathieu has completed a €20m move to FC Barcelona.
The player’s €20m release clause was activated late last week by the Spanish giants, after Mathieu petitioned for the pair to come to an agreement earlier on.
He has signed a four year contract, with the option to extend by one.
The signing of Mathieu shows the difficulty in finding quality central defenders in an otherwise barren European market at present.
