José Mourinho talks Wenger, Monaco, rejecting PSG, Les Bleus and more in Téléfoot interview

Chelsea manager José Mourinho gave a lengthy interview to French TV channel TF1’s programme Téléfoot this morning where he covered a number of subjects including Deschamps, PSG, Monaco and Arsène Wenger.

On Didier Deschamps and France:

“We have never had the pleasure of properly speaking Didier and I. I cannot say that he is a good friend because we don’t have a relationship but I have a lot of respect for him. Didier did good work before the World Cup, and we saw a very good France team, with a basis of work to win EURO 2016, with a great team with talent and maturity. They can win it.”

On his clash with Arsène Wenger:

“Wenger will explain what he wants to explain. I will not say more. I have no words to explain what everybody else saw in those images.”

On Benzema, Varane and Pogba:

“Karim Benzema is a great player. France now has great players like Varane, Pogba, Lloris… Everybody is talking about Varane coming to Chelsea because they know he is a player I like a lot, but everybody knows that he will stay at Real Madrid. I do not want to speak about the other players, because that would leave space open for speculation.”

“I knew about the project even before it began. I was Leonardo’s first choice (ahead of Ancelotti). And when Carlo left, they made me another offer. I have rejected them twice. I thought a lot about it. But the first time, there was Real Madrid and the second time there was Chelsea. The club has an enormous amount of quality, Laurent Blanc is a good manager, Al-Khelaifi a good President. They are in good hands. In the Champions League, they have gained some experience. They can win it.”

On Monaco:

“Leonardo Jardim, I know him. He is a good manager. But I don’t understand the project. Falcao left, James left and there has been little investment since then. But I hope they will have a lot of success.”
