LIVE: Ligue 1 Final Day

22:00: Well, after what has been an absolute roller coaster of a Ligue 1 season, it is time for me to say a final goodbye. It has been one of the most exciting season in French football in recent history. I have thoroughly enjoyed doing each of these Live Commentaries, and look forward to doing so again in the 2014/15 season with earnest. Until next time, whenever that may be, Au Revoir!

21:57: Round Up: So, after all that action, Lyon claimed the last Europa League spot, Lille claimed the last Champions League spot, and Evian stayed in Ligue 1 for another season at the expense of Sochaux.

21:55: HALF TIME: Bastia 0-0 Nantes, Lorient 1-4 Lille, Marseille 1-0 Guingamp, Monaco 1-1 Bordeaux, Nice 0-1 Lyon, PSG 4-0 Montpellier, Reims 1-3 Rennes, Sochaux 0-3 Evian, St-Etienne 3-1 Ajaccio, Toulouse 3-1 Valenciennes.

21:52: Lorient 1-4 Lille (Bourillon o.g.) Lille put the icing on the cake in fortuitous circumstances, as Bourillon scores an unlucky own goal. Lille showed great character to come from a goal down and win today.

21:50: GOAL: St-Etienne 3-1 Ajaccio (Baradji). Ajaccio fans can cheer about something, as Baradji pulls one back against St-Etienne. Not going to make a difference though I’m afraid.

21:49: GOAL: Toulouse 3-1 Valenciennes (Ben Yedder) .What a day for Ben Yedder! He completes his hat-trick to secure all three points for his team!

21:47: GOAL: PSG 4-0 Montpellier (Raboit). The up-and-coming youngster rounds off another successful season for PSG, as he provides the 4th goal in a rout of Montpellier.

21:46: Evian fans must really be enjoying themselves at the moment – their team has out in a massive shift to outclass Sochaux today. Huge credit to everyone at the club, and commiserations to Sochaux, who will be gracing Ligue 2 next season.

21:44: GOAL: Toulouse 2-1 Valenciennes (Le Tallec). Can Valenciennes end a disappointing season on a high note? Le Tallec has given them the chance, as he sweeps home calmly to reduce the deficit to one goal.

21:41: Missed Penalty: Max Gradel has the chance to get a fourth goal for St-Etienne, but his penalty comes back off the woodwork with Ochoa beaten. Again, that miss is not likely to influence much.

21:38: GOAL: Reims 1-3 Rennes (Diego). Finally the Reims fans can cheer! After Ntep humiliated their side with the third goal (check it out if you have not seen it), Diego pulls one back for Reims. Not likely to make a difference in the end though.

21:36: Having said that, Lorient are trying their hardest to spoil things for Lille, but the away side are just about holding on at the moment.

21:34: It looks like the only game in which we can have drama heading into the last 10 or so minutes is the Nice vs Lyon match. If Nice equalise, Marseille will leapfrog Lyon into the final Europa League spot!

21:31:  GOAL: St-Etienne 3-0 Ajacico (Perrin). Loic Perrin rises highest to bag St-Etienne’s third goal and his second, but unfortunately for them it appears to be in vain, since they still lie in 4th due to Lille leading against Lorient.

21:27: GOAL: Sochaux 0-3 Evian (Wass). Wass scores a third Evian goal as they hit Sochaux on the break, and the home side are comdemned to relegation it appears. Credit to Evian, they have been immense.

21:23: GOAL: Lorient 1-3 Lille (Kalou). Is that 3rd place secured? It may well be, as Kalou gives Lille a 2 goal cushion against Lorient. It looks like St-Etienne’s efforts against Ajaccio will be wasted.

21:17: GOAL: Reims 0-3 Rennes (Ntep). And another! Reims are having a shocker, and Rennes have capitalised, as Ntep adds a third goal to heap misery on the home side.

21:14: GOAL: Marseille 1-0 Guingamp (Ayew). Marseille finally have a lead, as Valbuena’s cross is headed home by Andre Ayew. That puts a little more pressure on Lyon now.

21:12: GOAL: Reims 0-2 Rennes (Toivonen). The Swede as been big for Rennes since his January move, and he pops up with another goal today, thereby doubling his side’s lead against Reims.

21:10: GOAL: Lorient 1-2 Lille (Roux). HUGE goal! Roux puts Lille in front against Lorient, and they overtake St-Etienne to stand 3rd place at the moment! Great character to come from a goal down.

21:09: GOAL: PSG 3-0 Montpellier (Lucas). PSG are now three goals to the good, as Lucas applies a clever, technical finish to a sweeping PSG move.

21:07: Close: Sochaux have forced Hansen into two good saves already this half, with efforts from Contout and Roudet.

21:04: Sochaux have a huge job on their hands to survive, as they need three goals against an Evian team who out-thought them in the first half. If they do come back and win, it must surely go down in Ligue 1 history.

21:02: KICK OFF: We are getting back underway one by one in Ligue 1 now!

20:55: As things stand: St-Etienne in the final Champions League spot at the expense of Lille, Lyon in Europa League spot, Sochaux relegated, Evian safe.

20:50: HALF TIME: Bastia 0-0 Nantes, Lorient 1-1 Lille, Marseille 0-0 Guingamp, Monaco 0-1 Bordeaux, Nice 0-1 Lyon, PSG 2-0 Montpellier, Reims 0-1 Rennes, Sochaux 0-2 Evian, St-Etienne 2-0 Ajaccio, Toulouse 2-0 Valenciennes.

20:46: GOAL: Toulouse 2-0 Valenciennes (Ben Yedder). Ben Yedder calmly strokes home a penalty to give his side a 2 goal cushion heading into half time1

20:44: GOAL: Sochaux 0-2 Evian (Angoula). Poor defending costs Sochaux. From a Wass corner, Angoula rises unchallenged to head home past Pele and give Evian a 2 goal lead. Sochaux need an unlikely 3 goals without response to stay up now…

20:42: In true Ligue 1 spirit, just two games, Bastia vs Nantes and Marseille vs Guingamp, are goalless as we approach half time. As things stand, Sochaux are going down, Lyon are claiming 5th and St-Etienne are in 3rd.

20:40: Sochaux trying all they can to score, as their fans will them on, but Evian are holding strong at the moment. In fact, Evian look dangerous themselves when they hit Sochaux on the counter.

20:37: GOAL: St-Etienne 2-0 Ajaccio (Erding). Game over. Erding doubles St-Etienne’s lead, and I do not see a way back here for Ajaccio.

20:34: GOAL: Reims 0-1 Rennes (Doucoure). Rennes have the breakthrough, as the powerful Doucoure, who scored last week as well, puts them in the lead. Reims will look to respond.

20:32: GOAL: Lorient 1-1 Lille (Kalou). Big goal for Lille, as Kalou equalises for them against Lorient. One more and they will assure their place in 3rd.

20:29: GOAL: Toulouse 1-0 Valenciennes (Ben Yedder). Toulouse have the breakthrough thanks to a very clever finish from Ben Yedder!

20:27: Ouch: Mandanda takes one on the chin after a clash with Yatabare, and is out cold. Looks like he will be replaced…

20:25: GOAL: Lorient 1-0 Lille (Aliadiere). Massive goal! Aliadiere strokes home from a cross to put Lille in all sorts of trouble! ASSE third as it stands.

20:23: GOAL: PSG 2-0 Montpellier (Ibrahimovic). The Ligue 1 PLayer of the Year doubles PSG’s lead with another fantastic goal.

21:21: GOAL: St-Etienne 1-0 Ajaccio (Perrin). Huge goal this one! Perrin nods home from a few yards out to give his team the lead, and the pressure is now all on Lille!

21:18: GOAL: Monaco 0-1 Bordeaux (Hoarau). Bordeaux take an early lead thanks to a smart finish from Hoarau, who bags his third of the season. Fantastic start form the away side.

21:15: St-Etienne well on top against already relegated Ajaccio, but have not converted their dominance into something tangible. Remember, they need to win today to keep their hopes alive.

20:12: Lille look nervous in their match against Lorient, and so they should be. They should have wrapped up 3rd place long ago, but a loss here and their brilliant season could be undermined…

20:10: GOAL: Sochaux 0-1 Evian (Wass). A goal fitting of the occasion! Wass hits Sochaux with a body blow as he scores a brilliant acrobatic effort. Sochaux need to to stay up now.

20:08: GOAL: Nice 0-1 Lyon (Kone). Big, big goal. Lyon take an early lead as Kone rises highest to head home against Nice. As things stand, Lyon assured of 5th place.

20:06: GOAL: PSG 1-0 Montpellier (Lavezzi). Ibrahimovic crosses, Jourdren should do better and can only punch back to a PSG shirt, and after a few more deflections, the ball falls to Lavezzi, who has a simple job to score.

20:04: Sochaux vs Nice has started as you would expect from a relegation tussle – both teams are very tense and are easing themselves into the game. Titanic tussle ahead in that one.

20:00: KICK OFF: We are underway in all 10 Ligue 1 games!

19:56: Race against relegation: In what promises to be the most dramatic game of the season, Sochaux face off against Evian in a winner takes all. The winner if guaranteed safety, the loser if doomed to relegation. In the case of a draw, Evian will stay up.

19:53: Race for Europe: Two European spots are still up for grabs today. Champions League football is reserved for the top 3 teams, and Lille currently occupy 3rd, 2 points ahead of St-Etienne. However, if St-Etienne win and Lille lose, St-Etienne will claim the 3rd and final Champions League spot. Further down, Lyon lead Marseille by one point in the race for the last Europa League spot. If Lyon fail to win and Marseille win, then Marseille will take the last spot. If Lyon lose and Marseille draw, then Marseille will take it on goal difference. All clear?
