Malian striker Modibo Maiga was believed to be absent from Metz’s squad to play Marseille yesterday because of a shoulder injury, but that is not the version of events that Canal + came up with last night.
The TV station believes that Albert Cartier, the Metz manager and Modibo Maiga had a falling out this week when the striker was informed that he would not be starting for the game against Marseille at the weekend.
In response, the player is understood not to have turned up to the airport to travel with his teammates to Marseille on the weekend.
In doing so, Metz might take the view that Modibo Maiga has violated a clause in his loan deal which allows them to terminate the agreement immediately.
