West Ham United and Monaco join Serge Aurier race

According to our colleagues at L’Equipe, AS Monaco have entered the race for Toulouse right-back Serge Aurier with intent. The club wants to meet with the player as soon as possible to try and convince him that a move to remain in France is ideal rather than his preference to move to England.

Get French Football News understands that Swansea and QPR remain interested, with the latter having had a £5m offer rejected and Arsenal have not completely lost interest, but are understood to have moved for Mathieu Debuchy because Arsene Wenger’s plan was to sign Aurier and keep Sagna, so that he could phase the young Ivorian into the first team.

Now that Bacary Sagna has left for Manchester City, Wenger believes that Serge Aurier might not be ready to become a starting right-back at a top Premier League club, hence his attempts to sign the more experienced Mathieu Debuchy. It remains to be seen whether or not Aurier could still move to the Gunners. The player agreed a 5 year provisional contract with the North London club, before they decided to halt their efforts to sign the player.

Another Premier League club that has recently approached Toulouse regarding Aurier is West Ham United, having enquired about the player only at this stage.

PSG have yet to formulate an offer for the player, and despite claims of the capital club’s interest in Aurier, there are other targets on Al Khelaifi’s agenda in that position.
