21:55: Full time reaction: Well, what a game that was! Fantastic attacking display from France, who completely overpowered the Swiss tonight. That performance should give them huge confidence for the rest of the tournament, and who knows how far they could go…! Things look very promising for all French fans!
21:51: FULL TIME: France 5-2 Switzerland
21:48: We are heading into extra time now. I guess the Swiss can take confidence from their two goals, but it should not really knock the confidence of Les Bleus, who completely dominated the game until the 80th minute.
21:45: GOAL: France 5-2 Switzerland (Xhaka). Another brilliant goal from the Swiss! Inler plays a sublime ball over the top to Xhaka, who crashes a shot in on the volley. Two of the best consolations you will ever see.
21:43: That will undoubtedly just be a consolation goal for Switzerland, who have otherwise been as poor today as Les Bleus have been magnificent. Could this be the second step in a long journey for France in Brazil?
21:39: GOAL: France 5-1 Switzerland (Dzemaili). As consolations go, this is a decent one! Dzemaili hits a free kick under the wall from 30 yards, and it creeps past Lloris and into the bottom corner. Great goal.
21:37: In all honesty, it could have been a lot more for Les Bleus today. The goalkeeper has made some fantastic saves, Benzema missed a penalty, and Cabaye an open goal. It could have been even worse!
21:34: Close: How is it not six?! Benaglio makes a triple save to keep the score at 5-0! First from Valbuena’s low effort, then Matuidi’s shot, and last of all Benzema’s acrobatic volley.
21:32: GOAL: France 5-0 Switzerland (Sissoko). Brilliant once again from France. Benzema plays a perfectly weighted ball into Sissoko, who hits a fantastic low finish past Benaglio and in the bottom corner. This is a complete rout.
21:28: I, as well as many French fans, had fears before this match due to the strength of Switzerland’s team, but I must say they have been completely blown away by Les Bleus tonight. Imperious from France.
21:25: GOAL: France 4-0 Switzerland (Benzema). Paul Pogba, just newly on the field, curls a delicious pass into Benezma, who produces an acrobatic finish through Benaglio’s legs and into the back of the net. Brilliant.
21:23: Close: Brilliant from Lloris. The ball is crossed in from the right hand side, it flies over Debuchy’s head to Mehmedi, but Lloris is off his line extremely quickly to stifle the chance.
21:21: Substitution: Paul Pogba is on in place of Olivier Giroud.
21:19: Close: France finally get into the final third for the first time in this second period, and almost score, as Benzema’s deflected shot flies narrowly over the bar with the goalkeeper rooted to the spot.
21:17: You can see why Sissoko was picked ahead of Pogba today. Sissoko has not stopped working all game, shutting down attack after attack on the wings and through the centre, something Pogba is not so adept at.
21:14: France will look to hit the Swiss on the counter in this second half, but the most important aspect is the defence at the moment. If Les Bleus can keep calm at the back, this should be a formality.
21:11: Xhaka makes a run to the near post from that corner and meets the cross, but his header flies well over the bar. Promising for the Swiss though.
21:10: Sissoko needlessly hacks down Shaqiri on the wing, and the Swiss have a decent chance here… but Matuidi is there to head clear for a corner.
21:08: France have been a little bit complacent in their passing since he restart, and the Swiss are building up a bit of pressure, without yet testing Lloris.
21:05: Switzerland have started quite brightly this second period, and Sakho is forced into a good challenge, but they will need something special to get back into this.
21:03: KICK OFF: We are back underway on Brazil! Les Bleus lead 3-0.
20:55: Half Time Reaction: France have been completely imperious so far. They could easily have more than 3 goals, and Switzerland have been limited to one chance all half. If France continue like this, it could get nasty…! Giroud in particular has been fantastic.
20:47: HALF TIME: France 3-0 Switzerland
20:45: Switzerland try to launch an attack at the end of the half, but Les Bleus see it out. We are into two added minutes.
20:43: Olé’s ringing around the stadium with each French pass. Brilliant performance so far from Les Bleus. Half time close now.
20:41: GOAL: France 3-0 Switzerland (Valbuena). Stunning. Simply stunning from Giroud. He heads the initial corner clear to Benzema, then picks up the return ball and sprints 50 yards down the pitch, and lays the ball across to Valbuena for a tap in. Fantastic from Giroud.
20:39: Switzerland’s confidence has really grown since that penalty miss, and they have just won a corner… but Giroud heads clear.. GOAL for Les Bleus!
20:36: Will Les Bleus pay for their incompetence in front of goal? Well, Switzerland have looked toothless so far in attack, but one goal for the Swiss could really change everything.
20:33: Missed Penalty: Benzema earns a penalty, but then steps up and sees his effort saved by the goalkeeper. The rebound falls straight to Cabaye, with the goal at his mercy, but he somehow hits the bar from 5 yards out! Unbelievable how France are not 3 up.
20:30: Olivier Giroud takes a touch on his chest past Senderos, but his shot flies high over the Swiss bar.
20:28: Switzerland have a free kick in a dangerous position out on the far right hand side… and when the ball eventually comes in, Switzerland have the ball in the back of the net, but it is correctly chalked off for offside. Les Bleus played offside impressively.
20:26: Benzema runs on to a nice pass from Matuidi and tries to curl in a low shot from outside the box, but the goalkeeper is equal to it this time.
20:24: If you expected any form of response from Switzerland, there has been none to be honest (apart from not letting in another goal…). France look totally comfortable at the moment, but that could all change.
20:21: Wow. That was really a stunning piece of play from Les Bleus, who have landed two huge sucker punches on this Switzerland side, and France are well in control of this match right now. Matuidi’s goal was timed at 13 second after the restart!
20:19: GOAL: France 2-0 Switzerland (Matuidi). Unbeliavable! Two in two minutes for Les Bleus! Benzema slips Matuidi through on goal, and PSG’s midfielder finishes low past the goalkeeper to double the lead. Fantastic from France!
20:18: GOAL: France 1-0 Switzerland (Giroud). France have the lead! Olivier Giroud gets a powerful header on a corner, and it flies straight into the top corner! France have scored with their first real shot on goal!
20:16: Switzerland have offered very little going forwards so far, and France look very comfortable at the back at the moment.
20:13: Debuchy pinches the ball on the right to start a French counter, but Valbuena’s cross is too short for the strikers, and Cabaye’s eventual speculative effort flies over.
20:11: Giroud is, as you would expect, extremely energetic at the moment, and is chasing everything that he can down. He has to be careful though; his earlier challenge on Von Bergen in particular was very rash.
20:09: Ouch: Olivier Giroud sticks up a high foot, which connects straight with Von Bergen’s face, and he is in trouble, with blood everywhere. Senderos is on in his place.
20:07: Close: France nearly ahead! Karim Benzema picks the ball up outside he box, and goes for goal, but his curling effort is just wide of the goalkeeper’s left hand post. Great effort from the Real Madrid player.
20:05: Benzema sprays out a wonderful 50 yard pass to Valbuena out on the right hand side, but his cross in towards Giroud is intercepted by a Swiss player. Bright start here from France, who look assured.
20:02: France start with an immediate period of early possession around midfield, but Olivier Giroud, handed a start today, loses the ball out on the right, to give Switzerland some breathing space.
20:00: KICK OFF: We are underway in Brazil! Allez les Bleus! France in plain white, Switzerland in bright red.
19:57: Kick off is imminent, and both anthems have just played out here in Brazil. The French fans are in great voice here in the stadium, so Les Bleus should be up for this one. Almost underway…
19:54: Team Reaction: France make two changes to the team that beat Honduras 3-0 las time out. Giroud and Sissoko come in for Griezmann and Pogba, perhaps a move by Deschamps specifically tailored towards the Swiss team, who will likely cause France more problems than the Hondurans did.
19:51: Switzerland team vs France: Benaglio, Lichtsteiner, Von Bergen, Inler (c), Seferovic, Xhaka, Behrami, Rodriguez, Mehmedi, Djourou, Shaqiri.
19:48: France team vs Switzerland: Lloris- Evra, Sakho, Varane, Debuchy- Sissoko, Cabaye, Matuidi- Valbuena, Benzema, Giroud.
