Seven members of various security forces were hospitalised last night in and around SC Bastia’s stadium the Stade Armand Cesari, but nobody was seriously injured.
After the match, about 20 hooded individuals set fire to two bank branches and rubbish bins just outside the stadium using firecrackers and rockets.
The local police union released a statement this morning reading as follows:
“Armed with rockets and firecrackers, they did not hesitate to draw directly on the police and security forces. It is time that the French football authorities assume their responsibilities… The police are not “cannon fodder” for spectator sport.”
