Bafétimbi Gomis: “It has been difficult to score goals sitting on the bench…”

Swansea striker Bafétimbi Gomis gave a revealing interview on Canal Football Club tonight where he reaffirmed his desire to leave the club, speaking on a number of subjects as below.

On St Étienne: “I have tried to keep a good relationship with the representatives.”

On St Étienne return: “To be honest, I think it would be complicated for me to return. We talked about it but maybe one day.”

On Lyon/St Étienne: “I love both clubs, I have had good moments at both.”

On Chelsea: “I wasn’t impressed no, we already knew they were title challengers with City. We saw we were playing the future champion. We lost Ki to the Asia Cup. He is very important to us. The 5-0 has given us a cold shower and to refocus ourselves.”

On the Premier League: “It has been difficult to score goals sitting on the bench yes (he laughs).”

On Swansea City: “It was planned that we would play upfront together (with Bony) but it didn’t happen. He is a very good player and deserves all that has happened for him. It was a shame. I don’t know if I can say (that I am the starting striker). When Bony was starting, I was also expected to play. I expected to play a certain amount of games, I came here with ambition. I have to think about what has happened. I don’t think that what was said was full respected (that promises were kept). I don’t know what will happen. At my age, it is difficult to accept spending time on the bench. I came to Swansea to give them what they didn’t have, a player at international level.”

On his future: “It is one of the possibilities (leaving) yes, it is one of the possibilities. It is planned that my entourage will meet with Swansea’s representatives. Then I will have a discussion with my representatives to find the best solution. I want to stay abroad. It is true that I have had not a bad amount of approaches from clubs. There are strong possibilities that I remain in one of the major leagues but, to come back to Turkey (one of the journalists previously mentioned it), they have done good things in the Champions League recently. There have been approaches yes. For the moment I am concentrated on Swansea. Especially after the heavy defeat yesterday it would show a lack of respect to the club (to discuss specific clubs).”
