Speaking to our colleagues at RMC, Dimitri Payet’s agent Jacques-Olivier Auguste confirmed that a deal for his client to join West Ham was seemingly imminent.
“The offer (from West Ham) has swung the pendulum. But Dimitri has still yet to sign the contract because he is very much strung to Marseille. Dimitri is waiting maybe for something else from Marseille. You can always tell me that Dimitri still has two years on his contract and that he could stay. But there is a country that is on Mars and another that is on Earth. The difference between the two clubs (in terms of what their offering) is colossal today. As an agent, I cannot ask a player to pass-by a contract of 5/6 years and stay at Marseille.”
“An effort in terms of salary and length of contract is needed, yes. We are not going to lie, Dimitri is attached to Marseille. He feels good at the club, his family is good here. His wife is pregnant and is awaiting a third child. Today, Vincent Labrune has tried to go in this direction, so that Dimitri can continue the adventure here. He has offered Payet something, but it is complicated.”
“I would be lying if I told you that it is 50-50 between Marseille and West Ham. I will take an example from a film: “It’s an elephant clinging to edge of a cliff with its tail tied to a daisy.” That’s what this looks like. For once, we have a player who is 28 who doesn’t want to leave France for England. I think he is right, but it might not be feasible.”
