Earlier today the Administrative Tribunal at Besançon decided to relegate RC Lens automatically to Ligue 2 at the end of this season after deciding that their initial promotion to the top flight last season was illegal.
According to our colleagues at France Bleu, Sochaux have won justice today after winning their appeal that RC Lens did not meet accepted conditions when they were promoted to Ligue 1 in the summer of 2014. As a result, the administrative tribunal has decided that the club will be relegated from Ligue 1 at the end of the season, regardless of whether or not they finish the campaign in the bottom three.
Further to this the French Football Federation has announced that it will appeal against the Adminstrative Tribunal’s decision to automatically relegate Lens. The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) will have the final decision on whether or not this automatic relegation ruling should be enacted or not. As the league currently stands, it could mean that no decision will have to be made if Lens fail to climb out of the bottom three by the season’s conclusion.
