From three to two relegated teams in next season’s Ligue 1 & Ligue 2 campaigns

LFP President Frédéric Thiriez has sensationally announced that this is the last time in Ligue 1 and in Ligue 2 that three sides are relegated from each division, moving to just two teams at the end of next season.

Both leagues will remain with 20 teams in them, without any sort of playoff system. LFP President Thiriez had the following to say: “An important decision for the future & modernisation of football. It was almost unanimously accepted. The idea is that investors need a little more security. Three promotions and three relegations is too many.”

This of course means that going into the 2016/17, only two sides will be promoted to Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.
