Hatem Ben Arfa: “I am happy.”

Speaking at a press conference at the French national team’s base Clairefontaine, OGC Nice attacking midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa reflected upon his incredible transformation.

On his return: “I am proud to return after three years of absence. I hope that it will continue. I am happy because I have had lots of difficult moments and I take this to be a recompense.”

On where he might play positionally: “France play a 4-3-3. I like to play on the right in this sort of formation, it is there where I have played the most.”

On the changes around Clairefontaine: “There has been a lot of work at Clairefontaine in the last three years and yesterday I got lost trying to go to the toilets.”

On the match vs England: “To play England will be quite something for me. Four years have passed by. But the focus is on winning.”

On EURO 2016: “I am looking to EURO 2016, yes and no. So many things can happen… but it is a target of mine. The Euros in France its a crazy thing.”

On his career: “I did not imagine that my path would be so difficult as a youngster. It is not over, I am only 28.”

On Claude Puel: “Claude Puel is a big reason why I have returned today. He works on my strengths and weaknesses, he knows how to make me better.”

On his favourite goal: “Against Rennes, with the standing ovation from the Rennes fans. That warmed my heart.”

On Les Bleus now: “I am at the disposition of the French national team. I will give everything. We do not think about the absentees. The most important thing is the next two matches. The rest does not matter. I am like a child who is learning. The national team is like our parents who punish us when we do things that are not good.”
