Karim Benzema on Fékir, Brazil, his responsibilities and more

Speaking at France’s pre-match press conference ahead of their encounter with Brazil tomorrow, Karim Benzema discussed a number of topics including Fékir, Brazil, his responsibilities and more.

On the France captaincy…

“I am a core player, but the captain is Lloris and I wish him a speedy recovery. For tomorrow, we shall see (who is given the captaincy)…”

On his role in the team…

“There is no difference between my role for Real and for les Bleus. Only the players are different.”

On Thierry Henry…

“I had the opportunity to play with him. He was of the same calibre of Platini, Zizou. He is a model forward, why not try to have a career like him.”

On the game vs Brazil…

“There is not a side who are favourites. After the World Cup, Brazil picked themselves up and were winning games and scoring a lot of goals. It will be a difficult game. Having said that, since the World Cup we have beaten Spain and Portugal. We are strong, with a large group.”

On Nabil Fékir…

“He is a young player who is doing extraordinary things with Lyon. We need to give him time. There is still a long road ahead of him.”

On certain Brazilian players…

“I like Marcelo, Neymar and Thiago Silva. They are the most talented.”

On his personal aims…

“Each time, I need to show the best version of me. I need to keep progressing and showing that progression. Each time, it is a new challenge.”

On the history surrounding France vs Brazil…

“It is a special fixture, there have been some great matches between the two, 1998… I want to eradicate the memory of the last time we met them, it went badly over there. (France lost 3-0 against Brazil in 2013)”

On Neymar…

“I do not have a specific duel with Neymar ahead of me tomorrow. He can make the difference at any moment.”

On Antoine Griezmann…

“He is having a good season. I hope that he continues to build upon this, that he wins trophies… even if that is going to be very difficult (he chuckles).”
