Lille formalise departure of René Girard

In an official club statement, Lille announced that they had amicably terminated manager René Girard’s contract, a decision which comes into effect at the end of the week after the club’s final Ligue 1 game of the season against Metz this weekend.

Also in the statement, Lille confirmed that they would announce Girard’s successor, who will almost certainly be Hervé Renard, before the end of the month.

Renard will travel to the Ivory Coast tomorrow to negotiate a release from his current deal with the national team there. Frederic Antonetti has emerged as a surprise candidate to replace him at the head of the recently crowned AFCON winners.
