According to Sky Italia, Marseille manager Marcelo Bielsa has turned down the opportunity to manage Serie A side Sampdoria next season.
Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero is understood to have phoned Bielsa, who politely turned down Ferrero’s advances.
Bielsa last night spoke in his post-match press conference as if he was not going to continue his adventure with Marseille:
“I want to congratulate the French Ligue 1 for the league that they have here. I have managed some great players here. Some of them are some of the best players I have had in my career. There is a very professional group at Marseille and some very unique facilities here. I have an enormous amount of emotions tonight. I will keep them for the rest of my life. The match today was a reflection of the heart, history and potential of this club. There were a lot of defeats that we should have avoided. It is frustrating to finish 4th. I will be taking my holidays like everyone else.”
