Montpellier president Louis Nicollin rules out buying African players

Montpellier’s outspoken President Louis Nicollin has come out with another controversial statement, revealing that he will no longer purchase any African players because of their involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations. He was particularly upset by the recent loss of midfielder Jamel Saihi, who plays for Senegal.

Nicollin was quoted as saying in Midi-Libre: ‘I think that, ultimately, Saihi can stay in Tunisia if he likes. I don’t understand how you can leave a club for such a long time in the middle of the season. It could destabilise the group. In future, I won’t buy any more players who play in the Africa Cup of Nations, that’s for sure.’
