In what will be, should it be confirmed, one of the shock moves of the Ligue 1 summer transfer window, AS Monaco appear to be close to the signing of AC Milan attacker Stephan El Shaarawy.
Reports emanating from Sky Italia last night revealed that a deal was close, that the player has already agreed personal terms with the club and that a fee agreement is, in principle, there with some minor details to sort out.
The player is expected to earn €3m a year with AS Monaco on a 5 year deal and the general belief is that the player will join permanently, not on a loan with an option to buy, the latter scenario being touted by a certain French football journalist last night.
The fee touted by journalist Gianluca di Marzio was between €18m and €20m, but the understanding this morning is that the deal will be worth less, about €16m in total.
Monaco appear to have once and for all moved on from the Mattia Destro deal, which had been being negotiated for weeks. The player is expected to leave for Monaco imminently, where he will have a medical tomorrow or on Monday. Stephan El Shaarawy, Monaco’s Egyptian?
