Vincent Labrune on N’Koulou, Fanni, Gignac, Bielsa and more

Marseille President Vincent Labrune was a guest on RMC tonight, where it was widely expected that he would announce the contract extension of manager Marcelo Bielsa. Unfortunately, he was not able to do so: extracts below.

On Marcelo Bielsa…

“I think that Bielsa’s desire is profoundly to stay with us. We have agreed on a lot of things, but there are some things about recruitment that he wants set right. The officialisation for Bielsa could occur this weekend or the beginning of next week.”

On Giannelli Imbula, Florian Thauvin and Dimitri Payet…

“Today Imbula has 4 or 5 clubs after him. We have offers for several players. If we have an offer that we like, we will open the door. We have never had as many offers for as many players as we do now. Thauvin, Imbula and Payet have a lot of offers. We have to sell someone before the 30th June in line with what we agreed with the DNCG. We tried to make a really competitive team this year, we came far. But we have to balance the books.”

On Rod Fanni…

“We want to keep him. We have made an offer. It is up to the player.”

On Jérémy Morel…

“We didn’t really expect Morel to leave. To be honest with you. We offered him a new contract, he had a better offer.”

On the supposed Lyon-Marseille rivalry…

“When you sign free players, they are no longer Marseille players. Lyon have not taken players from Marseille. Jean Michel (Aulas) likes to use the media and social media to do what he wants. It is a fair war.”

On Nicolas N’Koulou…

“We know how important he is for us. What he brings us on the pitch is more important than money in a transfer.”

On André Pierre Gignac…

“Of course we love him. He’s close to the club. What would be his interest in not rising his wages somewhere else.”
