Arsène Wenger never spoke directly to Lyon or Alexandre Lacazette’s agent about a possible summer transfer, GFFN has learnt.
Instead, Wenger has pursued Lacazette this summer in the age-old Arsenal formula of doing transfer business: through an intermediary.
Arsenal had enquired both with the player and with Lyon through several individuals who are not directly linked to the club.
After being quoted a fee worth €50m plus bonuses (for an overall fee worth around €60m) for the player, Arsenal have put Alexandre Lacazette to one side, as they assess the availability and viability of other targets.
Lyon President Jean Michel Aulas remains hopeful of keeping Alexandre Lacazette for the 2016/17 campaign, but internally OL concede that he is not untransferable should a side reach those demands.
PSG remain very much on top of this situation, but do not appear to have submitted a formal bid yet.
In short, a deal is there to be done, should either one of PSG or Arsenal want it badly enough.
