Speaking in a press conference following his announcement of the France squad that will be facing Bulgaria and the Netherlands in upcoming World Cup qualifiers, Didier Deschamps moved to justify the absence of Karim Benzema from his latest selection.
“I make decisions. And when I make decisions, on any player, I make them because I think it is in the best interests of the French national team. There you have it. The rest, it is not news for me.”
Karim Benzema was famously left out of France’s EURO 2016 squad following his alleged involvement in the blackmail of Mathieu Valbuena over a sextape.
