Former Angers midfielder and Franco-Algerian Romain Saïss was the subject of racial abuse from Newcastle United’s Jonjo Shelvey in a Championship match in September, an independent panel appointed by the FA has found.

Shelvey is understood to have infringed upon Rules E3(1) and E3(2) of the FA Code of Conduct, relating to racial abuse that included reference to ethnic origin.
Saïss’ club Wolves have welcomed the punishment. Shelvey will serve a 5 match ban and pay £100k for his actions.
