German daily Bild have reported that 34 year old defender Steve Gohouri has been found dead after having gone missing for several weeks previously.
The former Ivorian international began his career at PSG, signing a contract there after progressing through the youth academy, even though he never played a single game for the Ligue 1 club.
CS Brétigny was the club to have initially unearthed the player’s talent and that is where he began his youth career in France.
The player went on to have a long career in the professional game that included spells in England with Wigan, in Israel with Maccabi Tel Aviv and in Germany with Gladbach and more recently with Erfurt.
His corpse was found washed up in the River Rhine. The autopsy has shown that the player resorted to drug taking before plunging presumably to his death in the river. Members close to the player’s family had said that the player was lovesick, according to the Hamburger Morgenpost.
