The clan of former F1 Team Lotus owner Gérard Lopez has confirmed that their proposed purchase of Ligue 1 club Lille has been pushed back to January 2017, which will necessarily make the changes that they wish to implement in the January transfer window more difficult.
Lille have persisted with the line that the deal itself will go ahead on the date that had always been planned, the 9th of January.
An agreement is understood to already be in place between Michel Seydoux and Gérard Lopez worth between €40m and €50m for the purchase of Lille. Previously it had been thought that the deal would go through around the 20th December.
L’Équipe claim that Seydoux is disappointed with the nature of the offer from Lopez and this might yet hold things up for a longer period of time. Lopez’s camp merely dismisses this delay as simply occurring because of the proximity to the holiday period that the closing would happen, with many actors wishing for a period of holidaying instead.
Either way, it makes an already nervous Lille fan base even less at ease.
