Bordeaux winger-come-midfielder Henri Saivet arrived in Newcastle last night with his agent ahead of a now likely move to the Premier League side.
Saivet, who has been a crucial player for Bordeaux this season, spoke to club president Triaud in December and demanded that he be able to leave the club in case a good offer was made.
Newcastle have yet to even make a formal bid to Bordeaux for the player, but have an oral agreement with Bordeaux for a fee worth around €6m plus around another €1m in bonuses. Newcastle representatives arrived in Bordeaux today with the hope of finalising a fee agreement for the player. The player’s current contract with FCGB expires in 2017.
Only when Bordeaux & Newcastle have finalised a fee agreement can Henri Saivet undergo a medical with the Premier League side. He has in the meantime this morning been working on a provisional contract agreement with Newcastle.
All the pieces of the puzzle are in place and barring an unexpected U-turn, Henri Saivet will become Bordeaux’s first major departure of the January transfer window.
