Jérémy Mathieu another possible doubt for France

According to today’s edition of L’Équipe, Barcelona’s defender and French international Jérémy Mathieu is another possible doubt for EURO 2016 as France suffer a fully blown defender injury crisis.

After coming on at half time in the Spanish Cup Final against Sevilla, Mathieu felt his calf.

This little niggle has caused Mathieu to be out for ten days, although his camp is confident that he will make a full recovery before the Euros.

The player felt the pain at the beginning of the second half but insisted on continuing until the end of the encounter.

His camp moved to dismiss it as a problem:

“It is just a little something, nothing serious.”

As confident as they are about this situation, Mathieu has been injury prone throughout this season, having only just come back from a meniscus problem which kept him out of club action from between the last French national team matches against Russia and the Netherlands until the end of Barcelona’s season.

Deschamps will certainly be worried, with Zouma, Laporte, Sakho, Varane and now possibly Mathieu out of contention.
