Speaking to RMC last night, Senegalese international and Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly addressed French manager Didier Deschamps’s blunder on Sunday when the former Juventus boss claimed that Koulibaly was an option for the French national team that he was keeping a close eye on, when in actual fact Koulibaly was ineligible to represent France as he had already chosen to play for Senegal.
Koulibaly had the following to say:
“I was watching Canal Football Club, but I was with some friends, so I wasn’t really paying attention. Then, I heard my name. Immediately, my friends sent me a message. He [Deschamps] must have missed something. I am not annoyed at him either. I heard that a member of the French national team’s scouting team came to watch Napoli vs Empoli recently but I thought it was for Laurini who is also French.”
“I waited for a long time for a call up to the French national team. I knew when I joined Napoli that it could happen. But at the beginning of the the season I made my decision and I do not regret it. Senegal has a magnificent team.”
