Chief Features Writer Eric Devin kicks off a new week with a brand new five part series, this time looking at the best five signings made by Ligue 1 clubs for the 2015/16 campaign.
Player: Lassana Diarra
Club: Olympique de Marseille
Previous Club: Lokomotiv Moscow
Back from the wilderness after a season out of the game, Diarra has been arguably Ligue 1’s most impressive arrival this season.
A rare consistent performer for Marseille in a poor season, the veteran not only shone for his club but also for Les Bleus, playing his way back into Didier Deschamps’ reckoning in time for the European Championships.
While an injury suffered against Bastia in March was a disappointment, limiting his availability at a crucial juncture, the form of N’Golo Kanté is seemingly all that stands between Diarra and a starting role for France this summer.
Playing with an aggressive edge, Diarra charged about midfield and demonstrated an impressive range of passing, his future with the club now in doubt as a result of a strong season.
Even if it was only for one season, Diarra displayed the right motivation for l’OM and has, at last, delivered on the promise that saw him earn a move to Real Madrid all those years ago.
