Lys Mousset: “I was surprised by my price-tag!”

Speaking in an interview with L’Équipe following on from his €7.3m move from Le Havre to Bournemouth, striker Lys Mousset admitted that the size of his own fee has surprised him.

What does your move to the Premier League mean?

I am very happy. The Premier League, it is the division that I have dreamt about ever since I was little. I love the game, the impact, the intensity. The last-placed team can beat the first-placed team. I cannot wait to discover all of that.

But is this not all happening a bit too early, at the age of 20, after just one full season in Ligue 2?

I think that I will adapt quickly. At Bournemouth, there is a desire for me to progress. I have been told that they are going to make me work. It is a project that I liked. I felt a lot of confidence and respect for me and my family. I had a fair amount of offers, from Torino, CSKA Moscow, Tottenham, Sevilla but I felt Bournemouth as they were the club that was rising in terms of strength and that wanted to progress.

Were you surprised about the amount of interest in you?

In the current state of the market, it is quite normal for a young attacker to have offers. So I was not surprised. But I was surprised by the amount. There are higher fees but it still not bad huh! That was nice. It showed that they really wanted me.

What are your aims for this season?

I want to play, to start. Aside from that, I am not going to fix myself a number of goals that I want to score. What I can tell you, is that I really cannot wait to start. Because these matches, these are the ones that I watched on TV.

What does your departure from Le Havre represent?

I am very happy to arrive in England but I am sad because I did not leave on a good note. I would have liked to have left Le Havre in Ligue 1. It all came down to one goal…
