N’Golo Kanté: “To be able to wear this shirt is an honour.”

N’Golo Kanté has spoken to the FFF’s official YouTube channel about his first ever call up for the French national team.

“It is true that things happened quickly. New experiences, new challenges. What I do is I take it step by step, what I mean is in the moment, whatever I am doing, I give my maximum and then I see what happens! I am a midfielder, what I know how to do is to recover the ball and to help my team when we need to defend and to help the attack, I try to push forward from time to time, that is what I know how to do.”

“When I say my name on the list, I can’t explain it, it was gratifying, how do you say it. I was… it was… I was happy, I was happy! I thought about where I had come from, a few years ago I could have never imagined that and today to be here, it is just really satisfying. It is a new experience, we will see how it goes!”

“I am a bit shy, but as soon as I know someone there is no problem. Things are going to go well, I hope. It is something very important, it is something [the national team] that I have watched since I was little, since the World Cup in 1998 and then all the competitions that they have been in…. to be able to wear this shirt, it is an honour, that is for sure.”
