Official: Zinedine Zidane becomes Real Madrid manager

Real Madrid have announced the appointment of French legend Zinedine Zidane as their new manager on a two and a half year contract following the sacking of Rafael Benitez this afternoon.

Zidane had been the manager of Real Madrid’s reserve side Castilla since August 2014, having worked as Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant manager during the 2013/14 campaign.

Zidane had following to say upon his appointment as Los Blancos’ boss:

“I want to thank the club for giving me the opportunity to manage… the best club in the world. I will try to put my entire heart in it. I believe that everything will go well.”
