AS Monaco have signed midfielder and 14-year-old Hannibal Mejbri from INF Clairefontaine for a reported €1m fee to a three-year youth contract.
The contract will come into effect from the 1st of July 2018, whent he player’s final year at the INF Clairefontaine academy finishes.
Mejbri was very close to signing for Arsenal, where he spent several weeks on a trial basis, before Hannibal and his family made the decision to accept an offer from the Principality side instead.
Lotfi Mejbri, the player’s father, also confirmed a huge offer from Liverpool, speaking to Le Parisien:
“It has never been a question of money. If we were in for that, we could have got a lot more than what is being claimed in the press. I will give an anecdote: after signing for Monaco whilst on holiday in Tunisia, a lawyer with a mandate from Liverpool called me with an enormous offer. But I only had one word for him.”
The youngster has already signed a deal with sponsors Adidas.
