Premier League champions Chelsea and AS Monaco are poised to reach a deal worth around €40m for central midfielder Tiemoué Bakayoko, according to L’Équipe.
The 22-year-old has been in contact with the Bleus for several months now, with Bakayoko having hesitated after a certain moment, has made his decision that he wants to join CFC.
He will not be arriving at Chelsea as an indisputable starter. Conte is seeking to beef up his squad with Champions’ League football to play this season.
The French newspaper consider a deal so close that it could be announced next week. Bakayoko is aware that it is a risky choice to move to a club where you are not guaranteed playing time a year before the World Cup, but he is excited by the challenge.
Yesterday, Chelsea were confident of closing the deal, even if a whole host of intermediaries have continually made negotiations difficult.
