Speaking to Voetbal Magazine, Belgian defender Jason Denayer revealed that Manchester City were actively blocking his possible loan move to Lyon this summer.
“They have vetoed my departure to Lyon. They do not want to sell me, and even if they did it would only be under exorbitant conditions like for example with a buy-back clause that matches the selling fee. So, clubs only want me on loan. I am not against that but I want to choose my destination. In this frame of mind, Lyon was the perfect club, an ambitious team in a good league. We had an agreement with Lyon but not with City, who absolutely want to loan me to Girona. They have just been promoted, they play on the counter, in a small town, with few supporters. The opposite in every aspect to Lyon.”
