Ligue 1 side Marseille are more confident about landing West Ham United’s attacking midfielder Dimitri Payet than ever before.
Both local and national French press believe that Marseille are convinced they will close a deal for the French international before Tuesday’s deadline.
Marseille made a €30m offer last week and West Ham since made a counter-offer, that OM have not yet accepted.
The counter-proposal is believed to be worth close to the €35m mark. In recent days, the two clubs’ positions have gotten considerably closer together.
Despite that, the player’s agent Jacques-Olivier Auguste denied to L’Équipe this morning the existence of a provisional agreement between the player and Marseille:
“I deny the existence of an agreement between Dimitri and Marseille with the conditions cited, whether that is in terms of the length of the contract or the salary.”
It had been reported by multiple French outlets that Payet had agreed to a wage worth €7m gross on a 4.5 year deal.
