Massadio Haïdara’s move to St Étienne breaks down over wage concerns

St Étienne yesterday pulled the plug on a possible deal for Newcastle United’s French left-back Massadio Haïdara after the two parties failed to agree on a wage packet, according to L’Équipe.

The French newspaper claims that the player did pass the rigorous medical testing that they put Haidara through, but that it was St Étienne’s inability to offer close to his current €100k a month (excluding bonuses) wage packet at Newcastle that led to the deal falling through.

St Étienne offered the player roughly half of that. Talks have definitively broken down.
