Rennes have completed the signing of highly coveted teenager Ismaila Sarr from Metz for a reported €17m, in a deal that with bonuses could reach as high as €21m.
The 19-year-old arrives on a four-year contract and chooses Rennes despite links to Borussia Dortmund and even, an eleventh hour approach from Barcelona which the player claims he turned down because he feels he is not ready to leave France yet.
Sarr said, “Rennes is the club that can make me move forward. If I’m involved here I will be making progress. My margin of progression is still important. I must still progress defensively, offensively to be fairer, more decisive in the run-up to the goal. With Christian Gourcuff (Rennes manager), I’m sure I’ll manage.”
