Official | Willy Sagnol becomes assistant coach at Bayern Munich

Former Bayern Munich and Les Bleus defender Willy Sagnol has been announced as Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant coach at Bayern Munich, the German champions confirmed this Friday morning.

Sagnol, who played 184 Bundesliga games for the Bavarians between 2000 and 2009 will fill the gap left by Swansea boss Paul Clement and Hermann Gerland, who took over the Bayern Campus project and will take up his role with immediate affect.

The Frenchman had been out of work since being sacked by Bordeaux in March 2016, but his experience as France Under-21 coach could prove vital in his new role.

“I am very proud that Carlo Ancelotti, one of the best and most experienced coaches in world football, has picked me,” said the 40-year-old who has signed a two-year-deal with Bayern.

“I am happy to be able to work alongside Carlo and with this Bayern Munich team.”

“I had asked the board to bring in a replacement for the coming season,” said Bayern boss Ancelotti, who wanted a former Bayern player with coaching experience.

“Willy meets both criteria. I am looking forward to working with his this season.”
